AAFM® Global Designation

Chartered Economist

Understand the economy — then get paid to explain it.

An economist is the person who works out why prices, markets and whole economies move the way they do — and turns that into decisions banks, companies and governments act on. The Ch.E™ is AAFM’s economics designation, and you can earn it 100% online, from anywhere.

What is the Chartered Economist (Ch.E™)?

Here’s the opportunity. Every bank, company and government needs people who can read the economy — inflation, interest rates, trade, policy — and say what happens next. Very few graduates can actually do that, which makes the skill rare and well paid. That’s your way in.

That’s where the Chartered Economist™ comes in. It’s built around applied economics — micro and macro, econometrics, international trade, and a specialisation you choose — so you finish able to analyse data, build a forecast and back a recommendation, not just quote theory.

And it fits your life. It’s 100% online and open to graduates from any field with no experience needed — and it’s recognised in 151+ countries, so it goes wherever you do.

Ch.E™ Course — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Chartered Economist (Ch.E™) certification?+
Ch.E™ is AAFM’s globally recognised economics designation. It builds applied economics skills — micro and macro economics, econometrics, international economics and a specialisation you choose — so you can analyse data, build forecasts and advise on real economic decisions, not just quote theory.
Who can do the Ch.E™ — am I eligible?+
Graduates from any field can enrol, with no prior work experience needed. It suits economics, commerce and finance graduates, as well as professionals in banking, policy, research and data roles. Level 2 requires Level 1 (holders of a PhD, MPhil, MBA or MA in Economics may be approved to start at Level 2).
How long does it take and is it online?+
The Ch.E™ is delivered 100% online, so you can study around college or work — most students spend about 6–7 hours a week and complete it in roughly a year, with e-learning, live sessions and an online LMS.
How is the Ch.E™ structured — what are the two levels?+
Level 1 (Fundamental) is six modules covering the core of economics, from micro and macro to econometrics, international economics and applied economics. Level 2 (Advanced) lets you go deep in a specialisation of your choice.
What specialisations can I choose in Level 2?+
Seven: Economic Policy (CEPA), Energy Economics (CEE), Financial Economics (CFE), Health Economics (CHE), Industrial Economics (CIE), Managerial Economics (CME) and Petroleum Economics (CPE).
How are the Ch.E™ exams structured?+
Level 1 is an MCQ exam — 2 hours, 55 questions, 50% to pass, no negative marking, held monthly via Pearson VUE. Level 2 is a subjective, open-book exam — 3 hours, answer 5 of 7 questions, held half-yearly.
What does the Ch.E™ cost?+
The programme is ₹47,200 inclusive of study material. Exam and certification fees may apply separately — an advisor can confirm the current details.
Is the Ch.E™ recognised internationally?+
Yes — it is awarded under AAFM USA (GAFM) and recognised across 151+ countries, backed by AAFM’s ISO 29990 certification and AACSB/ACBSP recognition.
What careers and salary can I expect?+
Ch.E™ holders work as economic and research analysts, policy and consulting economists, and data or quantitative analysts across banks, asset managers, insurers, consultancies, think-tanks and government. Indicative analyst pay ranges from about ₹4 LPA to ₹15 LPA depending on role, employer and experience.
Ch.E™ vs an MA in Economics — what’s the difference?+
An MA is a longer academic degree. The Ch.E™ is a focused, fully online professional designation built around applied, job-ready economics and a specialisation — a faster way to add a globally recognised economics credential, whether or not you already hold an economics degree.
What study resources are included?+
Proprietary e-study material, online LMS access, live and recorded sessions, practice questions and mock assessments to prepare you for both levels.
